Dale Trivia
Florence Henderson (1934–2016)
She was born in Dale, the youngest of 10 children of a tobacco farmer, Joseph Henderson, and a homemaker, Elizabeth Elder Henderson. Her mother taught her music from a young age, and she began singing publicly in Spencer County and Owensboro area as a child, performing at local events and in church choirs. She graduated from St. Francis Academy, a Catholic boarding school in Owensboro, in 1951 at age 17. Demonstrating early talent in school musicals, she moved to New York City to pursue formal training and went on to a celebrated Broadway career starring in classics such as Oklahoma!, The King and I, and South Pacific. She later became a beloved actress and singer best known as Carol Brady on the classic TV sitcom The Brady Bunch and performed at many Indianapolis 500 pre-race ceremonies.
